Joigny Art Show 'Commotion in the Ocean' – A Celebration of Creativity and Culture

October 15, 2025

This year, our talented Joigny Art students made waves with their captivating exploration of the theme “Commotion in the Ocean.” Through swirling sea creatures, textured treasures and vibrant underwater scenes, students brought the mysteries and magic of the ocean to life in a stunning display of colour, imagination and creativity.

Throughout the term, students developed and refined a wide range of artistic skills including planning, design, construction, painting, drawing and attention to detail. Their creative journey was enriched by studying the work of renowned artists such as Ken Done, Gabrielle Young, Anya Brock, Bayley Mifsud (Merindah-Gunya) and Bronwyn Bancroft. These artists, representing both contemporary and Indigenous perspectives, inspired students to explore diverse styles and cultural narratives in their own work.

Each piece in the exhibition reflected not only technical skill but also the individuality and cultural curiosity of its creator. From bold, abstract interpretations to intricate marine life renderings, the artworks showcased the depth of student imagination and their ability to communicate powerful stories through visual art.

The Joigny Art Show Opening was held on Monday 16 September from 5.30 to 7.00pm, and was a joyful celebration of student achievement and artistic expression. We were honoured to welcome Ms Keely Varmalis, a proud Sacré Cœur alumna, who officially opened the exhibition and shared inspiring words about the importance of creativity, courage and following one’s passion.

The evening was filled with admiration, conversation and pride as families, friends and staff gathered to appreciate the students’ work. The gallery space was transformed into an underwater wonderland, immersing guests in a world of colour, movement and meaning.

We are incredibly proud of our Joigny artists and the dedication they have shown throughout the creative process. Their work is a testament to the power of art to inspire, connect and express the beauty of the world around us.

We hope you enjoy this selection of installation shots and photos from the evening, capturing the spirit and success of Commotion in the Ocean.
