Celebrating girls in Science

National Science Week was capped off this year with notification that Year 11 student, Monica Pham, has been chosen to attend a Rotary National Youth Science Forum in Canberra in January 2010.

Science Week was enthusiastically celebrated with a number of activities that included crazy scientist photographs, sherbet making and attempting to beat a lie detector. The week was capped off Year 11 students, Amelia Mills and Katryna Induni, attended a Science breakfast hosted by RMIT University where Bernie Hobbs from ABC Science hosted a panel that included Darren Pace from Shell Australia and Tanya Ha, an environmentalist, SBS presenter and author. A group from Year 11 and Year 10 visited the iconic Masson Lecture theatre at the Chemistry Department University of Melbourne to hear a lecture on ‘the chemistry of explosions’. Thankfully, it was theory, not practice!
