Penguin Publishing listens to Sacré Cœur students

Sacré Cœur students participated in a focus group for Penguin Publishing last Thursday.

Four Sacré Cœur students have helped a major publishing company in their efforts to make young adult fiction relevant to young readers.

Madeleine, Deirdre, Etelvina and Deborah, ranging from Years 8 to 11, attended a young adult fiction focus group held at Penguin Publishing's head office in Camberwell.  Four other schools, including independent, government and co-educational schools were also  involved.

The girls were asked to give their opinions on a wide range of topics affecting young people today; including sport, music, reading, movies, magazines, online activities and how they prefer to shop.

The students, about 30 in all, were then treated to a visit by renowned author Doug MacLeod whose most recent work is Siggy and Amber.  Doug has also written extensively for television including Fast Forward, Sea Change and Kath and Kim.

The Sacré Cœur students involved were delighted to discover that Penguin Publicist, Felicity Vallance, who assisted in facilitating the focus groups, is a past student of Sacré Cœur.

At the end of the session, the students were all allowed to choose two free books as a gesture of thanks and participating schools received a personally signed copy of Doug MacLeod's new book for their libraries.
