From Lettuce to Lamingtons

Year 4 girls hosted a cake and produce stall to raise money for their sustainability project.

Year 4 girls hosted a cake and produce stall during recess to raise money for their sustainability project - the Year 4 Community Garden.

The girls raised $537.70 which they hope will go towards installing a small tank for that area, purchasing a worm farm for natural fertilizer and composting area and funding extra educational resources about sustainable environments and healthy living.

The students are also undertaking a Student Owned Learning and Research Task (SOLAR task) which involves constructing and presenting a proposal to landscape and introduce a sustainable and eco-friendly environment around the playground in Joigny Junior School. They hope to include a sensory garden, fruit trees, recycled materials for seating areas, and sculptures that all year levels will create in their Art classes.

The money raised was a goal given to the students as a budget that they had to work within regarding the SOLAR task.

The girls rely heavily on rain water to water their garden and mulch and apply compost and organic fertilizer to ensure it flourishes.
