Australian UN Youth Ambassador visits Sacré Cœur

The Australian Youth Ambassador for the United Nations, Chris Varney, meets the SRC.

The Australian Youth Ambassador for the United Nations, Chris Varney, visited the Student Representative Council at Sacré Cœur this week.

In the lead up to his trip to the UN in September, Chris is visiting Australian secondary schools and universities to gather feedback and opinions from Australian young people regarding topical issues on which the United Nations is seeking action.

The girls in the SRC and Justice Action Committee were given the opportunity to express their opinions and establish a sense of the areas where Australia has supported others on both a national and international level, and where we have much room for improvement.  The issues they spoke passionately about included climate change, fair trade chocolate and human trafficking.

Chris was impressed by the level of knowledge of the girls who contributed to the lively discussion. This invaluable experience was embraced by the girls who took advantage of the chance to sign a folio of ideas and opinions which will be presented to Prime Minister Rudd.
